In October of 2016, Apple had announced its new line of laptops, including the new MacBook Pro. However, given its lack of support for anything but USB-C ports, it seemed that Apple had decided to stop supporting the “Professional” user. The fact that many photographers had to now carry around dongles to connect their cameras, or adapters to connect their SD cards, was unacceptable. Especially from a company that thrived on “ease of use” for their products. If you purchased an iPhone 7, you couldn’t even connect it to your new laptop, without the use of a dongle. There seems to be some form of disconnect between the executives at Apple and their supporters. It seems like they have lost touch with what is actually good for their customers.
For all of the professional users that purchased the new MacBook Pro, there is some good news around the corner! OWC, an electronic products manufacturer, heard the disappointment in Apple users and has brought us all a rather elegant solution. They are manufacturing a dock that seamlessly integrates with the MacBook Pro, to make it Pro again. The dock connects via one of the USB-C ports and looks as if it was part of the laptop to begin with. It is manufactured with aircraft grade aluminum, and it’s fit and finish perfectly complements the MacBook Pro.
